Boston, MA, May 1, 2014 – Knowledgent and the Global CEO Initiative on Alzheimer’s Disease (CEOi) today released a new strategy paper titled, “Applying Big Data to One of the World’s Biggest Problems: Alzheimer’s Disease.” Part of a larger strategy to leverage big data solutions, this paper explores the opportunities to apply big data technologies and techniques to the fight against Alzheimer’s.
The first in a new series of strategy papers, “Applying Big Data” identifies real-world use cases and big data initiatives across both public and private sectors that are relevant to advances in Alzheimer’s patient care. The paper also covers the challenges to progress in Alzheimer’s care and diagnosis and how big data can be leveraged to provide insights that are critical to finding a cure and improving the quality and delivery of care.
“Medical data, including electronic health records and data generated by systems across related industries, has increased significantly over the past several years and will continue to grow exponentially,” said Chris Young, Life Sciences and Healthcare Partner at Knowledgent and one of the authors on the paper. “Big data provides us with the analytic capabilities to uncover correlations between these massive and diverse datasets, ultimately leading to game-changing insights that can help us further the fight against Alzheimer’s.”
“Alzheimer’s is a global epidemic, and advancements in finding a cure and improving care are urgently needed,” said Drew Holzapfel, Executive Director of the CEOi and co-author of the paper. “When applied to Alzheimer’s diagnosis, treatment, and care delivery, the potential for big data to drive breakthroughs is untapped and unprecedented.”
